New Opportunity for Willits Merchants -- City Council directed staff to work with Willits merchants on ways to safely expand their operations into adjacent outdoor areas, in response to the County of Mendocino loosening restrictions. Merchants can apply for a Temporary Zoning Permit to provide additional seating, retail space, etc.
There is no cost to apply.
The goal is to implement a plan that is:
Flexible, to meet the varying needs of our merchants in the Downtown Core and throughout the City;
Safe, such that it complies with State and County Orders, accessibility and traffic safety requirements;
Adjustable, to adapt to changing circumstances; and,
Quick to implement, as we recognize our merchants are eager to get back to offering their goods and services to our community.
Willits merchants can fill out a Temporary Zoning permit application now.

In addition to individual applications, we encourage merchants to work together with their neighbors to propose unique solutions that take advantage of their particular locations. This could include combined seating areas, street closures, dedicated delivery areas, and/or grouped drop-off and pick-up zones, to further enhance shopping and dining experiences.
