Update: Groundwater Resiliency Improvements Project Initial Study

On December 28th, the City of Willits released the Draft Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration for the City’s Groundwater Resiliency Improvements Project for public review. The City is reviewing the nine public comments and three agency comments it received in response. Several of the comments expressed the common theme that the Initial Study should include more discussion of the project’s potential impacts to groundwater resources. In response, the City has decided to revise the Initial Study to include more discussion of this issue and then recirculate the Initial Study for subsequent public review. The project will be on hold until this important step has been completed and Council considers adoption of the environmental document and approval of the project. Thank you to all that provided comments.

Please note that the City has a list of individuals and organizations that have expressed interest in the Groundwater Management Plan and/or the Draft Initial Study for the Groundwater Management Project. If you are interested in being on this list to receive updates about the project, please contact the City at engineering@cityofwillits.org.
