Press Release – March 16, 2020The City of Willits would like to assure the public that we are taking all reasonable precautions in light of COVID 19. Until further notice:• City Hall is reducing hours open to the public to 10 – 4. We are using gloves to handle cash and are wiping down surfaces regularly.• The Council Meeting of 3/25/2020 has been canceled. The meeting of April 8th will likely also be canceled.• All events of over 25 that have been scheduled for the Community Center have been canceled. We are discouraging people from having any events or meetings for the next 30 days.• The Community Development Department will be closed to the public and will be conducting meetings via phone.• City restrooms will remain open, as public hygiene is paramount.• All non-essential meetings have been canceled• Water shut-offs have been postponed for 30 days.• We are encouraging people to try to not come in person to make their water payments, but instead, use our drop box in front of City Hall, in the parking lot; pay by mail; or use our website for on-line payment.• Employees have been cautioned not to interact with the public unnecessarily.• The Police Department, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Department, will be limiting their call responses to focus on urgent calls and they encourage people to reach out via phone rather than “in-person.”The Police Department will be issuing a separate directive today.Continue Practicing Common Sense!We are encouraging those over 65 to self-isolate at home. Continue to practice social distancing. Continue to wash your hands. Limit your non-essential travel. Please do not hoard – watch out for your neighbors! If you can, give generously to our Food Bank or other organizations that are helping those in need.
